The NE Area Reach & Serve Plan

In January 2007, the NE Area Board adopted the Area's Reach & Serve Plan, the Area's tangible, practical, and relevant commitment to effectively reach and serve our congregations so they can effectively reach and serve our communities (those within our congregations and those beyond). We do this with a a further commitment to hospitality, helpfulness, honesty, humility, and hope.

1.  One-on-One coaching for Senior & Solo Pastors (still unfolding)

2.  Group Coaching for Congregational Pastors (September-May)

3. Four or more congregational training opportunities each year

In the NE Area, these are sponsored by our Congregational Support Department, Department of Ministry, Upreach Department, and Outdoor/Youth Ministries (a Team of Congregational Support). Every year we offer a host of training opportunities: a Winter Youth Workers Training Event, the Spring Flip My Church Tours (offered five times, once in each Cluster), our Summer Ministers' Event, Fall workshops (usually in conjunction with Area Assembly), PR/AR Trainings, and more. We also rely heavily on our newlsetter, The Reach; our website; and our partnership with FlipMyChurch.com.

In addition, we work in partnership with the Mid-America Region's ministries, particularly the Elders Institute, and the Missouri School of Religion on whom we greatly rely for training for our licensed ministers and for continuing education.

Training is intentionally planed to ensure that every two years we cover fifteen areas we know to be critical for transformation:

  • Administration
  • Disciples' History and Polity
  • Expected Behaviors, Values, Mission, Vision, Planning Stratecially
  • Evangelism
  • Faith Formation & Christian Education for all ages and states
  • Leadership Development and Discipleship
  • Missioning & Visioning
  • Mission/Outreach: Local & Global
  • One-Anothering
  • Prayer
  • Pro-Reconciliation/Anti-Racism
  • Pastor Care
  • Pastoral Care
  • Stewardship: Individual and Congregational
  • Spiritual Disciplines
  • Women’s & Men’s Ministries

4.  Congregational Coaching for Leaders and Pastors

Offered five times each Fall (again, once in each Cluster) and as part of the Spring Flip My Church Tours.

5.  Annual on-site Check-in Visits with Each Congregation (still unfolding)

Flip My Church

Is it time to move past talking to concentrate on the WORDS that can help transform your congregation . . . and community?

In Spring 2009, the NE Area's Congregational Support Department adopted the Flip My Church Initiative and began challenging congregations to move past merely talking about transformation to practicing the W*O*R*D*S of transformation:

W   Worship                Corporate and personal

O    One-Anothering   Ministry within the congregation

R    Reaching Out        Evangelism and Mission

D    Discipleship          Helping people live out their Christian Education 24-7-365

S    Structures             Assuring that your congregational administration doesn't get in the way of transformationally worshipping, ministering, and missioning.
